“Being a prosecutor is a privilege I take very seriously.” Duhon said in the release. “Every day I strive to treat everyone I encounter in this job with dignity and compassion. I am honored and humbled to have received this award.”
Duhon joined the office in 2011 and, over her 12-year-career “established herself as a fierce advocate for victims as well as a forward-thinker in addressing contemporary, complex issues in criminal and social justice,” the release said.
She is cited in the release as being a driving force in establishing the first-ever competency docket in Colorado, a “transformational model that connects defendants in the restoration process with local resources while the Colorado Mental Health Hospital faces backlogs and long waitlists.”
She serves on the Adult Competency Subcommittee of the statewide Legislative Oversight Committee Concerning the Treatment of Persons with Behavioral Health Disorders in the Criminal and Juvenile Justice Systems where she is working on “improving behavioral healthcare solutions and laws which will benefit the efficient and equitable administration of criminal justice,” the release said.
She has also led the creation of the adult diversion program, aided in the expansion of the juvenile diversion program and has been “dedicated to ensuring victims of crimes feel heard, believed and supported throughout cases,” the release added.
“Chief Deputy Duhon is a shining example of what it means to be a prosecutor, a leader, and a public servant in the modern world of criminal justice. She demonstrates an unwavering dedication to victims, the community, and her colleagues,” McLaughlin said in the release. “Her thoughtful approach to criminal justice serves to inspire a new generation of prosecutors and she is truly deserving of this recognition.”
Lynzi Maas
The CDIA named Maas Prosecutor of the Year during their conference in Snowmass Village, according to a release from the DA’s Office. Maas was nominated by the Northern Colorado Drug Task Force for her “trailblazing work on cases of fentanyl distribution causing death as well as dedicated narcotics prosecution.”

“Everything I could achieve this year has only been possible because of the extraordinary work they do,” Maas said in receiving the award, according to the release. “The work they do is paramount to making Colorado not only a leader in drug prosecution, but a great place to live.”
CDIA President Matthew Stoneberger presented Maas the award and read from NCDTF Cmdr. Lt. Mark Hertz who wrote that Maas has had a profound impact on the prosecution of fentanyl cases in Colorado, according to the release. He described Maas as a prosecutor with expert legal knowledge and a strong relationship with task force detectives and other member agencies, adding “her appropriately aggressive approach has made the Eighth Judicial District a leader in charging under the new law,” according to the release.
Maas’ major cases position was created in 2022 through a grant form the Larimer County Board of Commissioners and was “instrumental” in securing the state’s first guilty plea for fentanyl distribution causing death, according to the release; Andrea Branco pleaded guilty to the felony charge Aug. 10 and is set to be sentenced Oct. 10.
She is also the lead prosecutor on two similar cases, one against Rodolfo Dominguez who is scheduled to stand trial early next year and another against Samuel Strait who previously pleaded not guilty but ultimately withdrew the plea and is scheduled to return to court Sept. 29.
The release added the recognition as prosecutor of the year was not limited to these cases and recognized “her excellent narcotics and drug trafficking prosecution, all while managing a caseload of complex, major cases.”
“Targeting the dealers killing members of our community with fentanyl has been a priority for our office,” District attorney Gordon McLaughlin said in the release. “Deputy Maas’ work has led the state as a model for holding the worst actors accountable and finding justice for victims.”
