Family of victims of deadly shootings in St. Lucie County, Florida demanding action from state attorney
Family members of two people killed in unsolved deadly shootings in St. Lucie County say the state attorney’s office is not getting justice for the victims and their families and the office needs to take more action.On Friday, those family members made their voices heard outside the state attorney’s office. “We’ve been quiet for too long and we’re not going to be quiet anymore,” said Nicole Vigilante, the mother of Gabriella Hanley.Hanley, 20, died exactly two years before Friday’s demonstration. She was shot on Oct. 5, 2021, while driving in Port St. Lucie. “These people just need to get what they deserve because it’s not fair that innocent young mother is not here anymore,” said Briana Perez, Hanley’s best friend.Dr. Roberto Peigne was shot and killed while delivering food in Port St. Lucie in July of 2022. The pediatric surgeon and father of three had just welcomed a new baby when he died. “It’s just really hard for the family right now,” said Josue Louis, Peigne’s brother-in-law. “We can’t live knowing that somebody who killed my brother-in-law is just going to be out there and walking around like a regular citizen. He was just Door Dashing and he didn’t do anything to deserve anything like this.”The families of Hanley and Peigne say Port St. Lucie Police Department officials told them there was enough evidence for arrests to be made. However, the state attorney has not sought arrests at this time. Now, the families are demanding the state attorney’s office take action.The Port St. Lucie Police Department provided the following statement to WPBF 25 News:”The Port St. Lucie Police Department continues to diligently investigate the homicide of Ms. Hanley. The investigation is active and ongoing at this time. Anyone with information is urged to call detectives at 772-871-5001.””I was told to be quiet in the beginning and not to talk to news people and everything, well I’m not anymore. I’m getting the word out about my daughter.
