I SPOKE WITH HIS WIFE OVER THE PHONE TODAY AND SHE SAID ERIC IS DOING GOOD AND RECOVERING BACK IN THE TRIAD. WILLIAMS WAS AMONG THE FOUR AMERICANS TAKEN HOSTAGE IN MATAMOROS, MEXICO, ON MARCH THIRD, THE FOUR, WHO ARE ALL CHILDHOOD FRIENDS, WENT THERE FOR A MEDICAL PROCEDURE FOR ONE OF THEM. THE AMERICANS WERE FOUND DAYS LATER, BUT ONLY WILLIAMS AND SOUTH CAROLINA RESIDENT LATAVIUS WASHINGTON MCGEE SURVIVED. SHADE WOODARD ANSON DALE BROWN DIED. NOW WILLIAMS AND MCGEE’S LAWYERS RELEASED THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT. IT SAYS IN PART, OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS, ERIC AND LATVIA HAVE BEEN THROUGH A NIGHTMARE THE LIKES OF WHICH MOST OF US CAN HARDLY BELIEVE. NOW, AS THEY CONTINUE TO RECOVER FROM THEIR PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL INJURIES, WE WANTED TO TAKE A MOMENT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THE UNBELIEVABLE OUTPOURING. AND OF CONCERN AND SUPPORT. Attorneys are now representing the two surviving victims who were kidnapped in Mexico. One lives in Winston-Salem. Eric Williams, who lives in Winston-Salem, suffered a gunshot to the leg but is back in the Triad recovering. Williams was among the four Americans taken hostage in Matamoros, Mexico, on March 3. The four who are all childhood friends went there for a medical procedure for one of them. The group was traveling in a minivan in Matamoros, which is across the border from Brownsville, Texas, when gunmen targeted their minivan, forced the Americans into their vehicle and drove away.The Americans were found days later but only Williams and South Carolina resident Latavia Washington McGee survived. Shaeed Woodard and Zindell Brown died. Now, Williams and McGee’s lawyers released the following statement. “Over the past few weeks, Eric and Latavia have been through a nightmare the likes of which most of us can hardly believe. Now as they continue to recover from their physical and psychological injuries, we wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for the unbelievable outpouring of concern and support. Every thought and prayer has been felt and they have mattered more than you could imagine. As we move forward, we ask for your continued support as we pursue every avenue seeking justice for Eric and Latavia and to hold those responsible for the deaths of Shaeed Woodard and Zindell Brown accountable.” WXII 12 News asked the attorneys for an interview with Williams and his family, but were denied at this time.
