A Massachusetts man who is accused of murdering his wife nearly a year ago and dismembering her body is getting a new lawyer.On Tuesday, attorney Larry Tipton told 5 Investigates that he was asked to defend Brian Walshe, of Cohasset, because he needs a public defender.Walshe, 48, was indicted in March by a grand jury on multiple charges in connection with the disappearance and presumed death of his 39-year-old wife, Ana, who was last seen alive on New Year’s Day. Ana Walshe’s body has not yet been found.The charges brought against Brian Walshe include murder, misleading a police investigation/obstruction of justice and improper conveyance of a human body. He remains held without bail.Case background:Ana Walshe was reported missing on Jan. 4 but hasn’t been seen since New Year’s Day.Her husband, Brian Walshe, was originally arrested on Jan. 8 on the charge of misleading a police investigation.Brian Walshe was charged with Ana Walshe’s murder on Jan. 18.Brian Walshe is also awaiting sentencing in a federal case involving fake Andy Warhol paintings and was supposed to report his planned movements.Investigators say they found video of him making an unplanned trip to a hardware store, where he bought $450 worth of cleaning supplies in cash. Another video showed him purchasing rugs at another store.Prosecutors said blood and a knife with blood on it were found in the basement of the home the Walshe family was renting.Ten bags of evidence found during a search at a transfer station in Peabody included Ana Walshe’s COVID-19 vaccination card, a necklace matching one she was known to wear, a hacksaw and a hatchet. Many of the items had blood on them and were connected to the Walshes through DNA.Grisly internet searches allegedly conducted by Brian Walshe in the days after the woman’s disappearance included queries about disposing of a body, dismembering a body and body decomposition, the prosecution said.Tipton also represents Emanuel Lopes, the 25-year-old Brockton man accused of shooting and killing Weymouth police Sgt.
